The Aquatic / Watercourse Specialist is a key team member of CIMA’s environmental group, providing expertise on projects involving waterbodies, aquatic habitat, and issues related to the natural environment. The Aquatic / Watercourse Specialist is a contributing member of a team focused on assessing existing conditions in the natural environment, providing recommendations for impact mitigation and protection, and helping our clients obtain environmental approvals for public infrastructure and private developments.
Provide specialist expertise on environmental projects, and conduct field surveys as needed
Lead aquatic impact assessments for bridge, culvert, watercourse restoration, and other related projects
Lead the design aspect of watercourse restoration projects
Work with terrestrial ecologists on multi-discipline impact assessment projects
Lead negotiations with relevant approval agencies and prepare permit applications for projects
Work with stormwater, wastewater, and structural engineers on infrastructure design and maintenance projects
Design and implement sampling programs for various projects
Write technical reports and proposals as required
Contribute to business development and liaise with existing and new clients
Provide guidance and supervision to technical staff
Self-motivated, detail oriented and able to work in a dynamic environment, both independently as well as part of a team on a variety of projects
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Advanced knowledge of common data collection protocols, such as the Ontario Stream Assessment Protocol, Ontario Benthic Biomonitoring Protocol, Rapid Stream Assessment Technique, Rapid Geomorphic Assessment, etc.
Suitable combination of education and experience in a related field, such as aquatic ecology, biology, or fluvial geomorphology
10 years of related professional experience, including project management experience
P. Geo designation or eligibility for the designation is an asset
Bilingual (English/French) is an asset, but not a requirement
Must have a valid driver’s license and access to transportation
