Description:

Purpose:
Performs original, semi-original and copy cataloguing for both Bibliographic Services, Archives and Special Collections. In addition, provides public service support for Archives and Special Collections and copy cataloguing for Bibliographic Services.

Education:
University degree or an equivalent of 4 years recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.

Experience:
Two years\' experience in online copy cataloguing to current cataloguing standards. bibliographic searching experience required. experience with on-line library systems and MARC coding procedures. knowledge of LCSH and LC classification. special collections cataloguing experience preferred.

Skills:
Data entry skills, accuracy is essential. advanced working knowledge of a wide range of application software (e.g. MS Word, Excel, MS Access, Adobe Acrobat) and web searching/navigation tools to search for online information. Basic reading knowledge in one of the following languages required: French, German, Italian. Demonstrated skill/ability in the following areas: excellent communication skills (oral and written) for obtaining and providing information in a clear and concise manner. Good problem solving skills. Ability to work independently within established guidelines and procedures and as a member of a team. Dealing courteously and effectively with people. Exercising good judgment and initiative, discretion and diplomacy. Aptitude and accuracy in detail work essential. Excellent organizational skills, including priority setting multi-tasking and meeting deadlines. Working effectively and accurately under pressure of high volume.
